The First Experience of Mountain Climbing

Vacationing is an activity that I like. Two years ago, there was a vacation that I will never forget. I went up the mountain which is very high with my friends. We set off in the morning using a jeep. Why we chose to use the jeep? Because of the way we were going was very difficult so if we decided to use motorcycle or a common kind of car, we would not be able to reach to the mountain slope on time.
After spending for 15 minutes in that jeep, we reached the mountain slope. My friends and I got out of the car soon and prepared a variety of equipments that we had to take it. Most of us carried groceries, blankets, and two of us carrying a tent. I was so excited about starting this journey because that was the first time I hiked up the mountain. There’s a friend named Riandi, he was a person who was experienced in mountain climbing. Riandi had often climbed mountain in many provinces in Indonesia. In that day, we depended on them.
We started climbing at 08:00 am. Together with my friends, I passed the forests and coffee plantations during mountain climbing. An hour later, Riandi instructed us to stop. We then take a break at a hut. The atmosphere at the climbing place is very cool, we also encountered a strange animal, a lizard that was brightly colored and very large. However, Riandi told us to act as usual, as if nothing happened.
Two of my friends seemed to have fatigue, they were Danio and Chandra. They looked like the city kids who have never exercised. Because of that, we rested more and ate the food together so that Danio and Chandra got enough power to continue the trip.
After we rested, then the trip continued. My friends and I were so worried when the rain pouring down. The climb had to be stopped while and we decided to set up a tent as soon as possible. The rain was long enough while all of us were in one tent. I felt very uncomfortable because my shirt was wet because of the rain. Finally, Chandra lent me a shirt so that my body felt comfortable again.
After an hour of being in the tent, the rain stopped and we continued the climb. Riandi told us that we had to be careful. The road was so slippery and we should be very careful in walking. Riandi told me to be a supervisor in the back, while he was a supervisor in the front. That was the hardest part because we only found a very narrow path, slippery, and next to us was a ravine. When we fell, then we may not be able to survive.
The thing we feared was really happened. Danio did not walk carefully and he fell. Danio plunged into the ravine. Riandi, Chandra, and I kept yelling to call Danio. Danio finally answered our calls and he did not fall too deep because he held on to the root of the tree. Slowly, Danio kept switching between the roots of a tree to another tree roots and managed to climb back on track. We were very happy because Danio survived. Then, Riandi immediately asked us to climb because it was almost night.
At 6:00 pm, we arrived at the first peak and we decided to set up a tent at that venue before started to hiked the highest peak on tomorrow morning. In the evenings, we lighted the fire, ate, and chatted. It was an amazing holiday experience. I will never forget all the experiences.

Oyster

Oyster is a saltwater shellfish belonging to the family of bivalve mollusks. Although indigenous to many parts of the world, oysters are now farmed to avoid depletion and to minimize their contamination from polluted water. East Coast and West Coast varieties are available in the United States. In oyster cultivation, small seed oysters are first attached to a stationary support. As they grow in size they are transferred to beds, where their growth can be supervised. Traditionally it was recommended that oysters and clams be harvested only in months containing an “r” (September through April) to avoid contamination by blooms of “red tide” microorganisms. These organisms produce a toxin that accumulates in oysters and mussels and can cause food poisoning. State health departments monitor shellfish and may restrict harvest in other months. A marine bacterium, Vibrio vulnificus, can infect warm, brackish waters and infest shellfish such as oysters. The bacterium can cause blood poisoning in individuals with a weakened immune system.
Fresh oysters are traditionally eaten raw with lemon juice or sauce. However, the consumption of raw or partially and cooked shellfish substantially increases the risk of food poisoning and of diseases transmitted by sewage, such as hepatitis A and Norwalk virus. Cooked oysters are far safer. They can be poached, browned, cooked on skewers, or used in soups and sauces. Oysters canned in oil contain more calories than fresh oysters. Oysters are an excellent source of ZINC, though different varieties contain differing amounts. One oyster, cooked (100 g), provides 90 calories; protein, 5 g; carbohydrate, 5 g; fat, 5 g; cholesterol, 35 mg; calcium, 49 mg; iron, 3 mg; zinc, 9 mg; thiamin, 0.15 mg; riboflavin, 0.29 mg; niacin, 2.1 mg.

DIFFERENT KINDS OF CULTURE IN INDONESIA

Tourism Kamasan village Klungkung regency , Bali ( Balinese Culture )
Kamasan is a traditional painting artist community . So intimate and so long development of traditional painting the artists described the results of painting there own style ( style ) that separate the traditional Kamasan painting . Real artistic talent to grow also in other works of art in the form of gold and silver carving and sculpture is the last bullet . Although in terms of the materials used metal color fabric to follow the changes but still looks in his trademark theme of painting or carving that describes the puppet characters .

Bedouin tribes in the interior of Banten ( Banten Culture )
Baduy Baduy people or people is a group of indigenous people in the region Sundanese Lebak regency , Banten . The term " Bedouin " is the name given by residents outside the community groups , the term originated from the Dutch researchers who seem to equate them with Badawi Arab groups who are a nomadic people ( nomads ) . Another possibility is due to the River and Mountain Bedouin Bedouin in the northern part of the region . They themselves prefer to call themselves as urang Kanekes or " Baduy people " according to their region name , or a term that refers to the name of their village as Urang Cibeo

Ngaben ceremony Bali ( Balinese Culture )

Cremation is a purification ceremony atma ( soul ) as the first phase of Balinese Hindu sacred obligation to their ancestors by burning the corpse procession . As I wrote in the article know about Pitra , the human body consists of rough body , subtle body and the karma . Human rough body which is formed of five elements called Panca Maha Bhuta ie motherland ( solid) , apah (liquid ) , Teja ( hot substance ) wind ( wind ) and akasa ( vacuum ) . These five elements are fused to form human physical and mobilized by the atma ( soul ) . When people die who die are just rough body , not his atma . Well cremation is the process of sanctification atma / soul as it leaves the body rough .

However, there are still many people who think that global warming is just a mere issue and have no influence to our earth in the future. Though, there have been many signs of nature that arise as a result of global warming.

The increasing of sea level has occurred in many areas of the world. This increase is caused by the melting of polar ice caps due to the excessive heat of the earth. In addition, we can easily see a lot of storms, hurricanes, and tornado in various areas of the world. The global warming also makes a lot of farms experiencing crop failures that decrease the food supplies.

Harddisk ^_^

Hard disk is medium data storage on a computer that consists of a collection of magnetic hard disks and spinning, as well as other electronic components. Hard disks use a flat disc called the platter, which on both sides are coated with a material that is designed to be able to store information magnetically. Platter-platter by punching holes in the center are arranged and rearranged on a spindle. Platter spinning at very high speed which is controlled by the spindle motor that is connected to the spindle. Special literacy electromagnetic tool named head mounted on a slider and is used to store information in a disk or read. Slider mounted on the arm, all of which are connected mechanically to a single collection on the surface of the disc and is connected via a device called the actuator. There was also the logic board to regulate the activity of other components and communicates with the PC.

ATA / EIDE. EIDE hard disk (Enhanced Integrated Drive Electronics) or ATA (Advanced Technology Attachment) is the latest version of a stAndard disk interface suitable for connection to the bus. Many manufacturers have a range of disk with a disk interface EIDE / ATA disk can be connected directly to the PCI bus and roomates which is used in many PC (personal computer).

SCSI. Many disks have interfaces designed for connection to a standard SCSI bus. The disks tend to be more expensive, but have better performance which is possible due to excess SCSI bus than the PCI bus. Access to the same can be done for many disk drives as the drive interface is actively connected to the SCSI bus only when the drive is ready to transfer data. This is especially useful in applications where there are a large number of requests for small files, which often happens in a computer used as a file server.

RAID. Promises great performance and provides a large and reliable storage. Disk is used both in high-performance computer and in systems that require dramatically higher reliability than normal levels. However, with the decline in prices to a more affordable level, the disk becomes more attractive even for a computer system with size – average.

SATA. SATA hard disk of the type (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment), the disk interface ATA (Advanced Technology Attachment) by using the serial version of the thin cable that has small wires. Total about two-thirds of total hard drive cable with type EIDE or ATA disks are numbered 39 pins and SATA has very high speed data transmission and reducing latency. So, this serial bus is able to exceed the speed of parallel bus.

Assignment 3

1. MEMO IS :
·         a hard-copy (sent on paper) document
·         used for communicating inside an organisation
·         usually short
·         contains To, From, Date, subject headings and Message sections

·         does not need to be signed, but sometimes has the sender's name at the bottom to be more friendly, or the sender's full name to be more formal. If in doubt, follow your company style.

Memo writing is something of an art form. A letter is not a memo, nor is a memo a letter. A memo is a short, to the point communication conveying your thoughts, reactions or opinion on something. A memo can call people to action or broadcast a bit of timely news. With memo writing, shorter is better.
As with all writing, memo writing needs a structure. Because they are short, rambling meanderings will soon destroy the memo’s effectiveness and become a waste of productive time to those that read it and to the person who wrote it.
If you have something longer than a page, it’s better to send it as an attachment or a document that follows the memo used as a cover letter. Never make a memo too long. If someone takes a glance at a memo that appears to be too long, there’s a good chance it will be set aside for a time when they aren’t busy. This can defeat your memo’s purpose which is timely communication.

2. MAIL :
The mail or post is a system for physically transporting documents and other small packages, as well as a name for the postcards, letters, and parcels themselves. A postal service can be private or public, though many governments place restrictions on private systems. Since the mid-19th century national postal systems have generally been established as government monopolies with a fee on the article prepaid. Proof of payment is often in the form of adhesive postage stamps, but postage meters are also used for bulk mailing. Modern private postal systems are typically distinguished from national postal agencies by the names "courier" or "delivery service".

Postal authorities often have functions other than transporting letters. In some countries, a Postal Telegraph and Telephone (PTT) service oversees the postal system as well as having authority over telephone and telegraph systems. Some countries' postal systems allow for savings accounts and handle applications for passports.

Inquiry Letter
Inquiry Letter is a letter written to request information and/or ascertain its authenticity. A letter of inquiry deals with various matters like job vacancies, funding, grants, scholarships, projects, sales, pre-proposals and others. The term is common in various business setups as it implies fund request or pre-proposal information. Owing to this usage, the term may be considered exclusive to these setups alone. But that is not the case, to this effect the below definition offers a justified meaning.
Inquiry Letter Definition
A document requesting information sent on behalf of an individual or an organisation for their own respective purposes, which can be mutually beneficial to the recipient and the sender.
The term ‘Inquiry’ is same as ‘Enquiry’. The former is more commonly used in U.S. and the latter one is more common in U.K. There are some other terms which represent the letters; these are Letter of Intent, Letter of Interest, Query letter, Prospecting Letter, Pre-proposal Letter and Concept Paper. The term ‘Cover Letter’, ‘Business Letter’, ‘Request Letter’ and ‘Sales Letter’ is also applied to an inquiry letter especially when the objective is same as that of letter for inquiry.
A letter of inquiry serves to facilitate business operations and satisfaction of the sender. Inquiry letters remove any misunderstanding and are time savers, especially when two parties want to reach an understanding. The communication towards this effect resolves the issue without any delay. With relation to it being a ‘Pre-proposal letter’, the inquiry letter is also termed as a ‘Condensed Version of a Proposal’. It is the outcome of the purpose of the letter which highlights the points of a proposal instead of a full-fledged proposal.
On an individual’s basis, these letters are sent to companies that are willing to hire but haven't advertised job openings. It can also be a letter addressed to editor in-charge of a publication proposing certain literary work. It can be a letter from a student who is vying for a seat in a college or a business that provides an internship. So, the objective of an enquiry letter is same but its projections and audiences are different. Same goes for its method of delivery, it can be sent via paper mail or electronic mail.

Dear Sir or Madam

Re: Order Number TF285347
I recently ordered a new Beetel Modem (item #285347), Model 100CX from your website on 20th June 2012.  I received the order on 7th July. Unfortunately, the modem turned out to be defective.
I connected it to my PC and installed all the drivers provided. I followed the manual provided but it didn’t work. All the Lights on the Modem were ON. I even went through troubleshooting but to no avail. I even installed it on my friends PC but ‘No Connectivity’. I used my Dying Modem to check if the ‘Line wasn’t Faulty’. The internet worked fine and there was ‘No issue with the Line’. I even formatted and reinstalled Windows just to make sure that there wasn’t a problem in my system. But that didn’t make the modem work.
As mentioned above, I have tried everything and the fault lies clearly in the modem. I would like you to credit my account for the amount charged for the modem. I needed a new modem so I bought it from a local shop. I don’t need a Replacement but a Refund which I am entitled to as per your Policy.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I have been a loyal and satisfied customer of your company for quite some time now. This is the first time I have encountered a problem.
Looking forward towards a Prompt Refund.
Sincerely,
Signature

Application Letter
Application Letter is a letter written for a variety of purposes in our day to day activities which can be domestic or professional. It is a liability conferred upon the sender by an authority. In such a liability the sender is expected to explain, inform/pre-inform the authoritative receiver about particular ongoing/upcoming activities, events, process or procedures. It is also a written request when written for assistance, admission, employment, favour, information, permission, service etc. A letter of application is also an accompanying document as and when required. When it does so it is known as Cover Letter. An application letter is largely a formal type of letter as it follows a predefined format which is applicable to most type of application letters.
Types of Application Letters
  • Application letter for teachers
  • Application letter resume
  • Bursary application letter / application for grant
  • Business application letter
  • Internship application letter / application letter for internship
  • Job application letter / application letter for job
  • Leave application letter
  • Loan application letter
  • School application letter
  • Scholarship application letter / application letter for scholarship
  • Visa application letter
Often you will come across information that limits the meaning of application letter to that of just a cover letter. But the multipurpose role of application letter makes it meaning broad and in that sense it also a request letter and an inquiry letter. Varied practices across the globe and the prominence of same type of information related to application letter does not let it come across as any other type of letter. For most of us, the internet is the final or ultimate source of information. Search for the term ‘Application Letter’ on the internet and you will come across information which is indecisive.
Many confirm letter of application as same as a cover letter while some disagree. But the truth is mentioned in the above paragraph. To confine application letter to cover letter is to limit its definition and propagate misunderstanding. Towards this effect, let us go through an example. You want certain holidays from your college and you write a leave application letter to the principal. This letter is an application of request. Similarly, when you need to get a new account passbook issued from the bank you are requested to write a letter. When you want a loan from a bank, you apply for it by an application letter. These and many more point out to the varied uses of letter of application.

BUSINESS ENGLISH

Task 1 : Business English

  1.  Find the definition of business letter.!
  2.  Mention the types, the parts, the style of business letter.!
  3.  Give one example of business latter.!

            Answer
  1. A business letter is a letter written in formal language, usually used when writing from one business organization to another, or for correspondence between such organizations and their customers, clients and other external parties.
  2.           - Types

·         Letter of Complaint
A letter of complaint will almost certainly result in an official response if you approach it from a businesslike perspective. Make the complaint brief, to the point and polite. Politeness pays off regardless of the extent of anger you are actually feeling while composing this type of business letter.
·         Resume Cover Letter
A cover letter that accompanies a resume should revel in its brevity. You should take as little time and as few words as possible to accomplish one task: persuading the reader to anticipate reading your resume. Mention the title of the job for which you are applying, as well or one or two of your strongest selling points.
·         Letter of Recommendation
A recommendation letter allows you to use a few well-chosen words to the effect of letting someone else know how highly you value a third party. Resist the temptation to go overboard; approach your recommendation in a straightforward manner that still allows you to get the point across.
·         Letter of Resignation
An official letter of resignation is a business letter that should be fair and tactful. Be wary of burning any bridges that you may need to cross again in the future. Offer a valid reason for your resignation and avoid self-praise.
·         Job Applicant Not Hired
In some cases you may be required to write a business letter that informs a job applicant that he was not chosen for an open position. Offer an opening note of thanks for his time, compliment him on his experience or education and explain that he was just not what the company is looking for at the present time.
·          Declining Dinner Invitation
Declining a dinner invitation is a topic for a business letter that, if not done tactfully, may result in a social disadvantage. Extend your appreciation for the invitation and mention that you already have an engagement for that date. Do not go into detail about what the engagement is.
·         Reception of Gift
It is very polite to return a formal business response letting someone know that you have received her gift. Extend a personalized thanks to let her know that you are exactly aware of the contents of the gift. If possible, it is a good idea to include a sentiment suggesting that you have put the gift to use.
·         Notification of Error
When sending a business letter that lets the receiving party know that an error has been corrected, it is good business sense to include a copy of the error in question if there is paperwork evidence of it. Make the offer of additional copies of material involved in the error if necessary.
·         Thanks for Job Recommendation
A letter of thanks for a party that helped you get a job should be professional and courteous. Above all else, avoid the temptation to go overboard in offering your thanks. Be aware that your skills also helped you land the job and it was likely not handed to you as a result of the third party.
·         Information Request
A business letter that requests information should make the request specific and perfectly understandable. It is also a good idea to state the reason for the information request. Extend advance appreciation for the expected cooperation of the recipient.

Parts
·         Letterhead
Companies usually use printed paper where heading or letterhead is specially designed at the top of the sheet. It bears all the necessary information about the organisation’s identity.
·         The date of the letter
Date of writing. The month should be fully spelled out and the year written with all four digits October 12, 2005 (12 October 2005 – UK style). The date is aligned with the return address. The number of the date is pronounced as an ordinal figure, though the endings stndrdth, are often omitted in writing. The article before the number of the day is pronounced but not written. In the body of the letter, however, the article is written when the name of the month is not mentioned with the day.
·         The Inside Address
In a business or formal letter you should give the address of the recipient after your own address. Include the recipient’s name, company, address and postal code. Add job title if appropriate. Separate the recipient’s name and title with a comma. Double check that you have the correct spelling of the recipient ‘s name. The Inside Address is always on the left margin. If an 8 1/2″ x 11″ paper is folded in thirds to fit in a standard 9″ business envelope, the inside address can appear through the window in the envelope.
·         The Greeting / Salutation
Also called the salutation. The type of salutation depends on your relationship with the recipient. It normally begins with the word “Dear” and always includes the person’s last name. Use every resource possible to address your letter to an actual person. If you do not know the name or the sex of of your reciever address it to Dear Madam/Sir (or Dear Sales Manager or Dear Human Resources Director). As a general rule the greeting in a business letter ends in a colon (US style). It is also acceptable to use a comma (UK style).
·         The Subject Line (optional)
Its inclusion can help the recipient in dealing successfully with the aims of your letter. Normally the subject sentence is preceded with the word Subject: orRe: Subject line may be emphasized by underlining, using bold font, or all captial letters. It is usually placed one line below the greeting but alternatively can be located directly after the “inside address,” before the “greeting.”
·         The Body Paragraphs
The body is where you explain why you’re writing. It’s the main part of the business letter. Make sure the receiver knows who you are and why you are writing but try to avoid starting with “I”. Use a new paragraph when you wish to introduce a new idea or element into your letter. Depending on the letter style you choose, paragraphs may be indented. Regardless of format, skip a line between paragraphs.
·         The Complimentary Close
This short, polite closing ends always with a comma. It is either at the left margin or its left edge is in the center, depending on the Business Letter Style that you use. It begins at the same column the heading does. The traditional rule of etiquette in Britain is that a formal letter starting “Dear Sir or Madam” must end “Yours faithfully”, while a letter starting “Dear ” must end “Yours sincerely”. (Note: the second word of the closing is NOT capitalized).
·         Signature and Writer’s identification
The signature is the last part of the letter. You should sign your first and last names. The signature line may include a second line for a title, if appropriate. The signature should start directly above the first letter of the signature line in the space between the close and the signature line. Use blue or black ink.
·         Initials, Enclosures, Copies
Initials are to be included if someone other than the writer types the letter. If you include other material in the letter, put ‘Enclosure’, ‘Enc.’, or ‘ Encs. ‘, as appropriate, two lines below the last entry. cc means a copy or copies are sent to someone else.
